Barbara Penson

Democrat Barbara H. Penson filed notice Tuesday she is running for election to the Floyd County Clerk of Superior Court position.

Incumbent Joe Johnston is thought to be retiring at the end of his term this year but Johnston, a Democrat, has so far refused to comment publicly about his plans.

Qualifying runs April 28 through May 2 for the July 15 primary election.

County, state and federal seats will be filled in the Nov. 4 general election — and challengers are starting to line up.
